Objectivity in Journalism
Objectivity Journalism is a significant principle in journalistic professionalism. Journalistic objectivity can refer to fairness, disinterestedness, f actuality and nonpartianship but more than likely it encompasses of all these qualities. This type of of journalism from what I have read is that it has not really been examined that much. But to me and the definition of this type of journalism is that it is mainly focusing on the object. So this means like no other source of information. So that’s what I think this topic means.
Inverted Pyramid
Inverted pyramid is a form of writing that we use. It is an upside down triangle that on the base is the important information or facts about the topic. That means that whatever goes in the base of the triangle is what goes on or in the lead paragraph. Then the non-essential information appears in the other paragraphs or “nut” graphs, in the order of how important they are. Essential information is like that the 5 W’s Who, What, When, Where, Why. The “nut” graph is like extra details that were in the story or article that you had read. They could even be quotes or statistics, background or other information. The inverted pyramid was used back in the old days when they would send out telegraphs because the important information would go first then the other stuff would come after. This also helped the editors because if they needed to cut an article then they could just simply cut from the bottom and the important information could remain at the top. To me this would be a very useful to way to write. This could help the kids now a days in there school work and essays that they have to do for class.
The Associated Press
The Associated Press has been breaking news since it was created in 1846. In 1846 five of the NEwYork City newspapers had got together to fund a expressed route so that they could get news on the Mexican War north because the U.S. Post Office didn’t deliver in the time that they wanted it to. The Associated Press has been the first o tell the world of many history’s important moments, like the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Over 30 pf Associated Press journalist have given their life to the news of the world. A reason that the Associated Press has been able to adapt quickly to new technologies. When the AP was founded the only way for communication was words. But The Associated Press was mainly about how news got around and the how the citizens got news.
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine was born on January 29, 1737 , in Thetford, United Kingdom. He died June 8, 1809, in New York City. He was married to Mary Lambert. In 1776, is when Thomas Paine had published his pamphlet “Common Sense”. The pamphlet was setting forth Paine’s arguments in the favor of American Independence. The Common Sense advocated independence on the Britain colonies. The pamphlet “Common Sense” played a remarkable role in transforming a colonial squabble into the American Revolution. To me I believe that this is was a good pamphlet because it had an impact on our independence. So I thank Thomas Paine.
Zenger Trial
John Peter Zenger was German immigrant that had printed a publication called “The New York Weekly Journal”. The New York Weekly Journal pointed out the actions of the corrupt royal governor William s. Cosby. The journal had accused the government of rigging elections and allowing the french enemy to explore New York harbor. The articles that were also printed accused the governor of an assortment of crimes and basically labeled him out. So after that Zenger was hauled to jail.
In 1733, Zenger was accused of LIBEl, a legal term whose meaning is quite different for us today than it was for him. But Zenger didn’t deny not publishing or printing the articles, so there really wasn’t any question for the jury. The first hurry was packed with individuals of Cosby’s payroll. But Zenger’s wife kept the presses rolling, her reports resulted in replacing Cosby’s jury with a true jury of Zenger’s peers. When the trial began and Zenger’s new attorney which was the most famous lawyer in the colonies Andrew Hamilton began his defense. While Hamilton began his arguments and admitted that Zenger did print all the articles but after stirring up the jury left and came back ten minutes later with a verdict of not guilty. To me this is really amazing because of how he got in trouble with the government but then was not guilty so that is really amazing.
Muckrakers
Muckracker is a group of any American writers, identified with pre-World War I reform and expose literature. They gave or provided people or public with detailed information. The name Muckraker was pejorative when it was used by president Theodore Roosevelt in his speech of APril 14, 1906. The Muckraking group grew out of “Yellow Journalism” which caused the public’s appetite for news arrestingly presented and out of popular magazines. To me muckraking could be a good and bad thing. The reason why it could be a good thing is because if people don’t want there information or businesses don’t want there personal information then the muckrakers will just give it out. But it could also be a good thing because they just to tell anything to anyone.
Yellow Journalism
Yellow Journalism is a term first coined during the famous newspaper wars between Joseph Pulitzer II and William Randolph Hearst. Both of these guys newspapers changed the the content of the newspaper by adding more sensationalized and it increased the use of cartoons and drawings in the papers. But ironically the term “Yellow Journalism” was credited to Joseph Pulitzer involvement in the conflict with Hearst. But now Pulitzer is famous for his journalistic achievement with the Pulitzer prize. I think that yellow journalism is a good thing even though like it all started between two people who had newspaper wars which is very ironic. So that is yellow journalism. 
First Amendment
The First Amendment is protects the right to freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of petition, and freedom to peaceably assemble. This means that we have can say whatever we want we could also praise any lord that we want or we didn’t have to praise anybody we could just do as we do. Also this means that since we have the freedom of petition that means we can make an complaint about the government with out getting in trouble or any punishment will be addressed to us. But these rights are important to us because that means we get to do things that other people in other countries can’t do. To me these rights are really helpful and they let us say whatever we want and do certain things, but we also do have limits a=on what things can be done for example someone can’t say that another person is a sex offender because then that would ruin his reputation. But these rights are really helpful and I’m glad that we have them. 
Penny Press
The Penny Press was most famous for it low price, a penny per paper. The penny Press became popular with the American public because other papers price was around six cents. The low prices for the newspaper and news started to become more available for everybody not only the upper class citizens. As more citizens started to buy the newspaper journalism and the news sgtarted to become more iportant to them since everybody could know what was going on. The newspaper also filled their papers with police stations, creiminals courts, and divorce courts to fill the paper to make it more interesting to the public. Benjamin H. Day was pioneer durin g the penny press era was the founder of the New York Sun, he printed at the top of every paper that ” The object of this paper is to lay before the public, at a price within the means of every one, all the news of the day, and at the same time offer an advantageous medium for advertisements.”
Isaac Doolittle
Isaac Doolittle was born August 13, 1721, in Wallingford Connecticut and died June 1, 1800, in New Heaven Connecticut. H was married to Sarah Todd on November !0, 1743 in Wallingford Connecticut. In 1769, Isaac Doolittle made the first printing press on American soil. To me this was a big factor to us because then led us the people to make the printer which is really helpful to us now a days. So we should be thankfukl that Isaac Doolittle had came up with the idea of the printing press.
